The Future of Air Travel

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) predicts that by the year 2022 there will be over one billion airline passengers in the United States. This increase in air travel will grow alongside many other advancements in all facets of aviation. The future looks bright with many exciting developments to come.

The prices for flying are changing all the time as are the number of different types of tickets that are available. Some airlines are starting to offer in between ticket categories such as "Economy Comfort" or "Economy Plus" which offer more amenities than a standard economy ticket but are cheaper than the higher end options. However, there is also a trend towards purchasing discount business class flights through specialized agencies which allows a wider range of people to fly in a luxury class section of an airplane than ever before.

Fuel efficiency is a hot topic and airlines are working diligently to make advances in this field. Fuel is one of the top expenses for any airline and reducing these costs has wide ranging benefits for both the airlines and passengers alike. A great deal of research is being done to reduce fuel costs and to find ways to reduce the negative effects of air travel on the environment. A reduction in fuel costs is expected to allow for a decrease in some of the prices, such as providing greater access to discount business class flights for frequent travelers.

Airlines are moving towards offering on-board Wi-Fi as a standard service and offering more personalized entertainment options across the board. The move towards digital media in the world is being used by airlines as well which will allow for a much greater number of media options to be available to passengers without the airline incurring any additional costs. Expect your on-board entertainment options to grow by leaps and bounds in the coming years.

Airports are also developing at a quick rate to keep up with the increasing demand. With more and more people flying, airports need to keep expanding. Some major cities are developing additional airports to keep the traffic congestion at a reasonable place while providing more space for the increasing number of flights departing and arriving in their city. With air travel getting safer all the time and the number of airline travelers increasing every year, it's an exciting time to watch these changes unfold. Who knows what developments are next to arrive!
